Somewhere along the way, rest became something you had to earn. After the work was done. After everyone else was looked after. After you were completely spent.

Why rest can feel uncomfortable
Rest sounds simple, but for a lot of people it brings guilt, anxiety, and a strange sense of unease.
When you slow down, there’s no distraction. No productivity to hide behind. Just your thoughts, your feelings, and the things you’ve been holding together.
So staying busy feels safer.
You don’t need to justify being tired
You don’t need a dramatic reason to be exhausted.
You don’t need to explain your mental load, your emotional labour, or the years you spent in survival mode.
Being tired is reason enough.
Rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement.
Rest is not the opposite of effort
Rest doesn’t mean you’re giving up. It means you’re listening.
It means you’re allowing your nervous system to stand down for a moment instead of staying on constant alert.
You can still care deeply and choose softness. You can still be capable without being constantly available.

Try resting without making it productive.
No self improvement. No turning it into another task to complete properly.
Just pause. Just breathe. Just be a person for a while.
You are allowed to rest before you reach breaking point.
